Cooking Instructions

  1. Lightly salt the onion slices and massage gently. This will reduce the intense onion flavour. Set them aside while preparing your burger.
  2. Over medium heat coals (or a griddle pan over a medium heat on the stove), cook the burger patties for about 3 minutes or until a crust begins to form. Gently press down to give the patty more contact with the grill.
  3. Before turning the patty over, generously brush the uncooked side with some mustard. Flip and cook the patty for another 3 minutes. The mustard is the secret step to a delicious crust on the patty.
  4. Spoon the BBQ sauce onto the cooked side of the patty and add a slice of Emmental cheese. Allow the cheese to slowly melt.
  5. Heat the tomato & onion braai relish over a medium heat until just simmering.
  6. To assemble the burger, spoon some of the braai relish over the bottom half of your toasted bun followed by lettuce, gherkin slices and then the patty. Add a generous amount of salted onions before finishing with a drizzle of beefy mayonnaise,
  7. Serve this juicy burger immediately with a side of napkins.
